[Note: Apparently owing to overwhelming response, we regret this trial is no longer actively recruiting.]

The purpose of this 26-week clinical research study is to quantify the effectiveness and safety of an investigational drug for people diagnosed with moderate to severe persistent asthma who are 12 years of age and older and use an inhaled corticosteroid medication to control their asthma. “An “investigational drug” is a drug that is being tested and is not approved for sale in the US by the FDA.

Drug maker Novartis has described the drug – Indacaterol – as a new type of bronchodilating drug that with one daily dose may provide full 24-hour symptom control with “a positive safety profile.” It works by dilating beta2-receptors in the smooth muscle of the airways.

For more info on the trial [ClinicalTrials.gov No. NCT00529529] and a list of trial site locations, go to the ClinicalTrials.gov website. An online screening questionnaire is offered at the Novartis website (scroll down).
